How we build it
A driveway has one job. A patio is where you actually get to design something. Curves instead of straight runs, a contrasting border, a fire-pit area set into the field, a seating wall along one edge — patio pavers give you more freedom than any other surface we build. A patio doesn't carry a truck, so the base doesn't need driveway thickness — but the water rules don't relax an inch. Florida rain finds every low spot, and an open-sky patio takes all of it directly. So we build it the way we build everything: base compacted in lifts, graded to shed water away from the house, a thin bedding course, edge restraint anchored into the base and not the sand, joints locked with polymeric sand. Under a screened lanai the rain load drops, but the grading still matters — water that blows in at the edges has to get back out. Get the ground right, and the shape is the fun part.
What that means on your job
Curves, borders, banding, a fire-pit ring, a seating-wall edge — we lay the shape out on the ground with paint and walk it with you before a single cut happens. A patio you'll sit on every evening should be designed standing in the yard, not squinting at a drawing.
No vehicle load means a patio base runs thinner than a driveway's — but it still goes down in compacted lifts, still gets graded to move rain away from the house, and the edge restraint still anchors into the base, not the sand. Skipping that is how patios dip.
An open patio takes direct Florida rain and full sun — the sun that bakes color out of pavers. Sealing helps hold that color, wet-look or matte, your call. Under a screened lanai the weather eases up, but water still finds the edges, so the grade still has to move it out.

That's most of the point. Patios are the surface with real design freedom — sweeping curves, a contrasting border course, banding through the field, a circle around a fire pit, a seating wall along one side. We lay the proposed shape out on the ground before cutting anything, so what you approve standing in your yard is what gets built.

The base still goes down in compacted lifts, still gets graded so rain sheds away from the house instead of pooling against it, and the edge restraint is anchored into that base, not into the bedding sand. The load changes. The water rules don't.
The Florida sun bakes color out of pavers, and an open patio sits in it all day. Sealer slows that down and gives you a finish choice — wet-look or matte. It has to go on clean, completely dry pavers or it clouds, so we don't rush that step. Plan on resealing roughly every 2-3 years.
Yes. We seal pavers other companies installed, and we re-sand joints with polymeric sand when they've washed out. If the patio has bigger problems — settled spots, a failed edge — we'll tell you what we find in a free written itemized estimate, and you decide from there.
